THE UNIVERSALS

THE UNIVERSALS
The Order of the Venerable Anagarikas or Universals accepts into its bosom those persons who have been characterized by their zeal as lovers and defenders of the cosmic-ecumenical, transcendental or universal Truth, and who have shown special interest in following a norm of liberating realization of the chains of materiality at the same time as of inexhaustible desire for individual improvement, at the same time that their devotion has qualified them as universal servants and faithful adherents to the Principles of the impersonal Life.
But such people are not "genuine" Anagarikas or Universals by this fact alone. Our Order of Anagarikas does not grant titles gratuitously, nor does it confer honors on anyone, no matter who they may be. Moreover, those who are interfered with or thus "recognized" do not become V. Anagarikas except by reason and proportion of their own efforts and in direct relation to their super-surfacing and exalting achievements of Consciousness.
The conquests and achievements, the triumphs and realizations of the Consciousness are, in fact and exclusively, what measures and expresses formally and implicitly what the individual is or becomes on the higher Planes of Life. Therefore, the V. Anagarikas or Universal Beings are exclusively what they make themselves. The Ven. Order of Anagarikas does nothing but recognize them, apart from preparing and inspiring them for the condition of such.
But the individuals accepted in the Ven. Order of Universals are not truly Anagarikas as long as they are not recognized as such; the fact of being accepted into the V. Order entails nothing but the fact of an almost unconditional adhesion and of exceptional conditions to become V. Anagarikas or Universals.
That is why some "accepted" V. Anagarikas - cases that are fortunately very exceptional - have given proof of duplicity, weakness of character and even fickleness in the face of their great moral and transcendental duties, spiritual responsibilities, which they have surely not been able to measure in all their enormous importance, either for lack of adequate culture, or for mere failure in the interstices of their personality where perhaps the demon of envy appeared, of cowardice, fear or vanity - the four apocalyptic horsemen who ride in the minds of human beings, with very disastrous effects on their entire personality, to the very threshold of emancipated Beingness, that is, to the moment of the most sublime conscious realization of liberated and perfect Life.
But it should not be believed that the Ven. Order of Anagarikas is to blame for this or should suffer the ignominious humiliation of the faults of some of its members who have not been able to worthily deserve the distinction that comes with the fact of having had access to its immense initiatory benefits and being spiritually housed within its prestige and maternal and infinite care. Those who err only harm themselves, and if they proceed contradictorily or with duplicity and indignity, thus providing bad examples for their disciples and others, it is only at the risk of their own initiatives, inconsistencies and unconsciousness, against which the Ven. Order of Anagarikas and the World Academy of Universality make countless efforts of a cultural and spiritual order through initiatory measures.
Fortunately, the Ven. Order of Anagarikas has suffered but very few affronts of this kind, and it should also be noted that, in most cases, the "misguided" soon return to face the consequences of their false appraisals.
Now, many will want to know the reason for such "deviations". It is easy to enunciate it. Human nature, for reasons that it is not necessary to explain here, has numerous complexes, and as long as they are not reduced to nullity by a correct inner discipline, there is no possibility of impersonal life or of universal service or of positive integral illumination of the being. On the contrary, since the human being suffers from multiple weaknesses, such as vanity, envy, fear and cowardice, and this in proportion to the work that the individual has to perform, it is not uncommon to see him falter. In the case of the "accepted" Anagarikas, it is the norm to entrust them with certain tasks and to confer on them positions of importance, so that they may demonstrate their qualities and prepare themselves even more for the immense responsibility that entails the work of leader and spiritual teaching that the world needs, in order to direct it towards more edifying paths of true moral greatness, in accordance with the higher and transcendental Plan of Life.
The weak do not resist temptations... and then they rebel decisively, with the pretense of "slaves freed extemporaneously", but like apocalyptic horsemen who ride on their foolish vanity, their crude fear, their fallacious envy and their ignominious cowardice. Such individuals, male or female, are failures through their own laziness and intimate indignity; they undertook a long journey and preferred to return before reaching the goal of their aspirations..., they pretended to do a work of positive personal edification and resented the onslaught of life, preferring then to give up or act as "slaves of their passions and defeated by their deficiencies and weaknesses", rather than to stand nobly and follow the luminous paths that Initiation has in store for them, and to remain faithful to the Principles-powers of the Spiritual Communion that the Ven. Order of Universals advocates, strengthens and guarantees. Such individuals are, in fact, doubly condemnable, since they lack the "self-confidence" which we so highly recommend, and they lack the "confidence placed in them by their Superiors in conscious achievements."
It is understandable, then, that many people and even disciples express their surprise when they learn of some people who, despite having received the distinguished honor of being admitted or accepted into the Ven. Order of Anagarikas, did not know, or did not want to, remain and live up to their best purposes and moral and spiritual duties freely contracted. But we repeat, this is not the fault of the Institution, but of its members who are unable or refuse to show themselves worthy of it. The Order is inviolable in its values, unattainable in its foundations, inasmuch as its transcendent essentiality consists in principles, and these are inviolable and indestructible.
No genuine V. Anagarika has ever suffered the infirmities of illusions, to commit blunders such as those alluded to above. This fact alone suffices to externally guarantee the safety of the Institution, justify its greatness and guarantee the effectiveness of its powers in the directing function of human spiritual evolution.
The Disciples must, first of all, try to remain faithful to the dictates of their heart and their Conscience and always devoted to their Initiators, and loyal to the principles of Truth which they have succeeded in realizing in the course of their Initiation. It is not a question of restricting anyone's individual freedom; but neither is it possible for individuals, whoever they may be, to fail to be conscious of their duties, worthy aristocrats of the pure and cultured Mind, and true nobles of the Spirit in all the dedications and circumstances of Life.
And in the face of purely human incidents, such as those which characterize weakness of will and fickleness of character, they must do everything possible not to be overtaken. But they must not be seduced by the siren songs of the vanquished themselves, who weep broken for not having deserved to be anything other than mere slaves of life. All are free to break their bonds with the Mystical Communion, bonds which they themselves established in moments of happy lucidity and splendid sincerity of heart and conscience; but these bonds are not broken with impunity, because one cannot play with the sacred, nor unworthily fail to comply with the Principles of Life. Truth cannot and should not be an altar for envy, a crown for cowardice, a canopy of fear, or a manger of vanities.
So become strong in the face of the innate or incendiary reality of others and shun any infamous juncture with the weakness of the short-sighted of conscience and stunted of mind or inveterate poor of spirit.
Ignorance, hypocrisy and selfishness are cunningly infamous in themselves. You, O Disciples, remain faithful to the transcendental Principles of Life and loyal to the Masters of Wisdom! Only in this way will you know how to strengthen yourselves and become true Citizens of the Universe and worthy knights of the Spiritual Ideal.
Never allow the discord and unworthiness of a V. Anagarika or any other misguided disciple to sully the purity of your own intentions or reach the stronghold of the heart and of the Conscience. They must be rejected as strangers with the goodness of our purposes and with the truth of the initiatory Principles.
The human personality usually becomes a maelstrom when souls become self-absorbed and assume postures and gestures of omnigrandeur, due to their twisted aspirations and vain self-centeredness. But the cosmic forces then react, and expel them from their affinity, leaving them at the mercy of their own inconsistencies and stormy deprecations.
